About AJICO

Ajico managed to make a notable impact during their brief stint on the J-rock scene. The band was founded by Kenichi Asai, the frontman of the rockabilly act Blankey Jet City, and singer UA, who led a successful solo career; Asai wrote the ballad "Strawberry Time" for UA's album Turbo (1999), and when his own main band split in 2000, he created Ajico with UA, her drummer Kyoichi Shino, and Tokie of Rize. The group debuted with the single "Hadou" (2000), released by Speedstar Records, and in 2001 followed it with the single "Utsukushii Koto" and the album Fukamidori, released to rave reviews. Ajico did a solo tour promoting the album, with the gigs documented on the live CD/DVD Ajico Show, but after that the members went their separate ways, with Asai forming Jude and UA resuming her solo career. ~ Alexey Eremenko
