Offering up a faith-based take on teen power pop titans like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and Katy Perry, Nashville's 1GN infuse the contemporary pop gusto of One Direction with the message of tobyMac. Formed in 2012 (as 1 Girl Nation) around the talents of Lauryn Taylor Bach, Lindsey Ciresi, Carmen Justice, Kayli Robinson, and Kelsey Sowards — all of whom had experienced varying levels of success on their own before coming together under the 1 Girl Nation moniker — the quintet inked a deal with the Provident imprint Reunion Records the following year and released their eponymous debut album that August. In May 2014, Sowards left the group before they released A Merry 1 Girl Nation Christmas — featuring a cover of "Let It Go" — months later. By the end of the year, Ciresi had also parted ways with 1 Girl Nation. The new trio returned in 2016 as 1GN, debuting a new beat-heavy sound on "Get Hype," which was more Ke$ha and Iggy Azalea than Taylor Swift. Their sophomore album Unite was set for release in April.
