EDITORS’ NOTES

Bassist Bootsy Collins is one of the few living humans to have played with both James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, and the all-star continues creating on his own terms, bass first. He begins his eighth solo album with his origin story—it involves dinosaurs—and carries on with his friends: Musiq Soulchild and Big Daddy Kane electrify the electro-flavored "Hot Saucer," fellow bass mavens Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke get vintage on "Bass-Rigged-System," and sultry soul singer Kali Uchis smooths out the sensual lead single, "Worth My While."

Return of the Funk Grandmaster

Boosty baba! This album starts of with a rocking funk jam and ends with another. In between, Bootsy enlists bassists, singers, rappers, and spoken word artists to flesh out his World Wide Funk soundscape.

Boosty actually perfects a funk formula he started with Fresh Outta P University in 1997. With modern production and a bevy or rappers in tow, Bootsy advanced from that to 2002's Play With Bootsy to 2006's Christmas is 4ever to 2011's The Funk Capitol of the World.

With this album, Bootsy crafts a sublime synthesis of funk, rock, soul, and rap. World Wide Funk is the definitive statement of what Funk can be in the 21st century. Bootsy has been the most consistent Funk artist, it's most underrated musical genius, and it's most joyous ambassador.

Whether with slow grooves like Worth My While and the tribute to Bernie Worrell or the rollicking revelations in Pusherman or Come Back Bootsy, you will be given a front row seat on the Mothership!
