Editors’ Notes Though Woody Guthrie died at age 55 in October 1967, he left behind a musical and cultural legacy that continues to be heard in the music of Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg, John Mellencamp, Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and numerous others. This in-depth collection of Guthrie performances features many of his most important songs—"This Land Is Your Land," "Pretty Boy Floyd," "I Ain't Got No Home (In This World Anymore)." There are also unreleased performances and six never-before-heard original songs, including Woody's earliest known recordings from 1939, while he was working for KFVD radio in Los Angeles. The live radio broadcasts let listeners hear Guthrie working through a variety of songs in a number of interesting situations, from the BBC's Children's Hour to Lead Belly's WNYC radio program. There was only one Woody Guthrie, and this is an excellent place to start or continue one's research into an American icon.
