Super charged yodeling hunting chant
Karl Denver, an early 60s singing star had this as a hit. It's the same song as The Tokens "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" except it doesn't have any lyrics save for Denver hollering "Wimoweh" at the beginning. The rest of the song is super charged falsetto yodeling all the way through that will wake up the living dead (huh?) and it certainly won't put you to sleep. It's based on "Mbube", a 1930's African hunting song by Solomon Linda which was later done by The Weavers in the 50s who gave it the title "Wimoweh" because that's what Pete seeger and friends thought the singer was saying. Later in the 50s The Kingston Trio recorded the song and there it stood until The Tokens made it famous and yes Karl Denver also in England.
