EDITORS’ NOTES

Soundtracking “rousing sport montages” was not an ambition for Texan instrumental rockers Explosions In the Sky with their sixth album. We’re not sure they’ll avoid that honor entirely—“The Ecstatics” and “Tangle Formations” are spine-tingly enough to accompany most last-second heroics—but this panoramic, foreboding set certainly hits harder than previous work. “Disintegration Anxiety” is a fuzzy, muscular work-out, the ambient and glitchy “Losing the Light” haltingly unsettling, while “Colours in Space” cycles through the band’s full range of melodic shades before allowing “Landing Clifs” its gorgeous comedown.

After listening to the entire album...

As one of the first reviewers who has ACTUALLY listened to the entire album, all the “pre-reviews” are justified. Good god, this is amazing. Tops all previous efforts. That is an imeasurable accomplishment too as I figured nothing could ever top take care, take care, take care. The record is mastered incredibly, they didn’t totally abandon what makes them special, but they explored new areas. They take you places you didn’t think the would or could. All the cerebral-ness of previous records are there. The spine tingling/nostalgic/comforting/introspectiveness exists. It feels like simultaneously like an overcast rainy day on a motorcycle cruising the winding Denver mountains, as it does a bright sunny midwestern morning with grass thick with dew. Makes sense? Trying to describe it is too difficult. IT’s music that makes you feel, see, and hear things outside of yourself. My life is enhanced by it. IT does to me what no other music can. And I thank you for it. Sincerely, I appreciate the service you guys provide. It’s magic.

Soul Trip

Been an Explosions in the Sky fan for many years now. Very few groups have that special something that can leave your mind and soul happy, in harmonious awe. I couldn’t thank these guys enough for their hard work and talent. Putting our emotions into music.
