What I Do...
Editors’ Notes Considering she named her first two EPs Interpersonal and Shouting Matches, Taylor Janzen pretty clearly has a thing for exploring the ways in which people relate to one another. The Winnipeg singer-songwriter's “What I Do…” is similarly about how one navigates the dynamics between humans. “It’s about when you’re in a relationship that you really care about for the first time, but also having the realization that now your problems aren’t entirely your own,” she tells Apple Music. "I’ve struggled with mental health issues my whole life, and so when I got into my first serious relationship I had to get used to the reality of those issues affecting the other person. This song is about not knowing what to do to change that.” Interestingly, the tune's driving alt-rock pace wasn’t there in the beginning. "It started out as an acoustic folk song I wrote in my bedroom,” she says. "I’m so proud of what it’s morphed into, because I love exploring different sounds and energies in my music, while still keeping the core of my songwriting sacred. And this song is a perfect example of what that looks like for me."
