More polished then the debut LP... "I See The Light", but still a winner

Western Union was a solidly more polished LP then the Five Americans debut LP, "I See The Light". The songs were less garage psyc and more main stream pop/rock. I remember hearing Western Union on the Honolulu AM station my Dad listened to on his drive to work in the morning. It was also played on the "Underground FM" station in Honolulu at the time. Clearly a cross-over hit to be sure. The songs in general relied more on vocalization then then did the heavy use of instruments. That said, the famous organ work of the Five Americans is very much present in Western Union and Sound of Love ... the two hits from the LP. If you are looking for an LP that represented the best of mid-stream pop/rock of the late 60's, this is a clear winner. Sundazed did a great job of remastering and reissuing this one and it is well worth the money to download the entire LP. The vocals are terrific and the sound reproduction is clean and clear. Thumbs up on this one!!
