Editors’ Notes One of the most multicultural cities in the world, Toronto joins people from all over the diaspora in a manner that often comes out through its music. Producer DJ Agile, who is based in the Canadian hub, fills his debut album We’re Never Done with the various sounds and flavors that represent his home and an equally diverse assemblage of features that share it. It opens with a shadowy production accented by a haze of disembodied voices in what feels like a nod to the stylings of the OVO and XO camps. Immediately, though, it pivots to the cheery, danceable vibes of tracks like “Heartbreaker” and the electro-Afropop tunes “Light Me Up” and “Flavor,” which features the Jamaica-born, Toronto-based vocalist Ammoye. The slow jams arrive in much the way we’ve come to expect: ethereal and moody. “Still Got Love for You,” which gets a lift from singer Richie Hennessey, and “Runaway,” which calls on acclaimed singer-songwriter Glenn Lewis, land delicate and familiar on the ear. In DJ Agile’s hands, we get a quick glimpse of the 6 with plenty of perks and none of the airfare.
