EDITORS’ NOTES

Warner Bros.' decision to drop JEFF the Brotherhood just weeks before Wasted on the Dream’s release date still let the band put out the album themselves. The album benefits from a major label’s high recording budget while still indulging the duo’s weirdness and inventiveness with pop hooks. Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson provides flute on “Black Cherry Pie” for surrealism’s sake, while songs like “In My Dreams,” “In My Mouth,” and “Karaoke, TN” offer up Weezer-style power pop, with fuzzed-out electric guitars joining vocal harmonies and perky melodies for a plenty fun good time.

Heavy. Sludgey. Good anthems. Been a fan for a long time and these dudes just keep getting better. Buy it and play it loud.
