11 Songs, 41 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Plants and Animals took their time over their fourth album, and the care is evident. As a generalization, the Montreal trio bring an eerie quality to rustic indie rock, but every song on Waltzed In… is quite different: the raga tones colouring “We Were One”, the frenzied vocals on “No Worries Gonna Find Us”, a brief funk diversion on “So Many Nights”, and, towards the end of the record, a shift towards French 60s pop in “Flowers” and “Je Voulais Te Dire”. Match their time investment: it’s a record that rewards repeated listens.
