Paul Sizer ,

The other side of a synthpop classic

This song has a firm place in music history; the first song that launched MTV, and a template for 80's pop music in general, in terms of content and production. It's great to see this song re-interpreted by one of its creators; Bruce Woolley has taken a bouncy pop song and re-focused on the sombre, reflective lyrics this time around, replacing the bounce with a symphonic, grand blanket of sound that is full of melancholy and warmth at the same time. It's not the original, but this re-imagining is stunning nonetheless; a fitting retroactive look for the 21st century.
