EDITORS’ NOTES

After conquering ancient battlefields, Amon Amarth level up their Viking melodic death metal sound with increased range and structure. Brooding opener "Death in Fire" howls forth with the band's signature fury, but upon that full-throttle battle anthem's abrupt end, the record delves further into emotional depths than before. The hypnotic circular riffs of "Where Silent Gods Stand Guard" and the sweeping melody of the stark "Across the Rainbow Bridge" give the album a greater sense of reserve than their previous out-for-blood approach.

Vs The World....Amon Amarth wins

This is the most complete Amon Amarth album because not only does it include a full album of new material, it has all of their old demos and EPs that no one knows about. On one end, you can hear fresh new Viking fury, while on the other end you can see where Amon Amarth began. Vs The World is one of my favorite metal albums with songs like "Death In Fire" and "Where Silent Gods Stand Guard." The music is epic, and the lyrics are just fascinating. All of you who are just discovering these gods of metal (thanks to the Bodom tour), its time to wake up. Start building your Amon Amarth collection now!! You won't regret it. This is one of the most incredible bands in the world today.

Save us, oh Lord, from the wrath of the Norsemen!

Absolutely brilliant album! At first, I had difficulty warming up to the heavy, aggressive sound, being accustomed to more melodic metal, such as Children of Bodom and even Rhapsody. The heavy beats and deep rhythms stuck with me, though, and grew on me quickly. I haven't spent as much time listening to the bonus disk, but the first disk is pure gold-not a single bad song! I love the deep growl accompanying the heavy distortion typical of the genre, but particularly in that it actually painted vivid imagery: especially in "Siegreicher Marsch" and "Down the Slopes of Death." I also like the Viking theme of the lyrics-it meshes very well with the almost brutal sound. If you like heavy metal, or even if you aren't really into it, I recommend this album because the former group will appreciate it, and the latter group will have a very nice introduction to the genre
