A San Francisco–based producer and DJ, J Boogie has been making music since 1991, when he started his hugely popular and long-running radio show "Beatsauce" (with DJ Raw B) on KUSF. Over the next two decades he released a gang of projects via the Bay's OM Records, spun regularly at clubs around the city, and furnished production and remixes for a wide array of artists, including Zion I, People Under the Stairs, Jennifer Johns, and Goapele. Rocking an original style that merges hip-hop, jazz, Latin, soul, electro, reggae, and downtempo, his sound is hard to describe but easy to digest. With Dubtronic Science, he also plays bandleader, bringing together multiple musicians to fill out his groove-heavy compositions. Undercover features an intoxicating vibe enhanced by live percussion, keyboards, and horns. Lateef the Truthspeaker stars on the old-school homage "It's on Fire," Bang Data and Deuce Eclipse serve up Spanish raps on "El Ritmo," and Aima the Dreamer and Raashan Ahmad (from Crown City Rockers) cut loose on the low-end monster "Magik."
