With a name that roughly translates from Latin as “sword bearer,” it’s no surprise that Ensiferum write plenty of songs about medieval heroes. A decidedly Scandinavian hybrid of death metal and folk music, the Finnish band’s seventh album overflows with epic swords-and-sorcery anthems like “For Those About to Fight for Metal” and soaring battle hymns “Hail to the Victor” and “Way of the Warrior.” Meanwhile, new accordion player Netta Skog takes center stage on the somber instrumental “Unettomaan Aikaan.”
