James Vincent McMorrow’s sparse, transcendent soul-folk pulses and glows on his fourth album, easing in with a relaxed groove and angelic background vocals on “December 2914.” The title track elaborates on the chilled-out vibe, as McMorrow’s gentle falsetto floats above simple handclaps and synth throbs. “Holding On” is all fractured, ethereal bliss as he leans into a more aggressive delivery and some dance-y rhythms, and penultimate track “Don’t Wait Forever” is a lean climax, built on short blasts of sound and a barely-there drum machine.
