Total F*****g Necro (Remastered)

Total F*****g Necro (Remastered)

A compilation of the U.K. black metal/grindcore band's first two demos, this nine-song 2002 release finds the band in full black metal mode, covering Mayhem (twice) to great effect, and constructing songs that echo the classic moves of the Norwegian scene. Their first album, The Codex Necro, is widely considered one of the best metal albums of the '00s, and this second release, in spite of the fact that the songs are all demos, only furthers the band's reputation. Essentially a two-man unit that plays live infrequently, Anaal Nathrakh often take lyrical inspiration from Nietzsche, as well as from a broad range of literature, poetry and film. The band's name is taken from a spell cast by Merlin the Magician in the 1981 film, Excalibur. The result is a vibe that is a little more sophisticated than their peers. Any supposed "sophistication," however, does nothing to diminish the power of this music.
