Three Bells is a summit meeting among dobro masters of three generations, but also a kind of musical eulogy for one; Mike Auldridge died shortly after the recording was completed. He's best known for his work with the pioneering newgrass band The Seldom Scene. Jerry Douglas has been a longtime member of Alison Krauss's Union Station in addition to his solo projects, and Rob Ickes plays in bluegrass group Blue Highway. Three Bells is strictly a trio outing—three dobros and nothing else. Thanks to both the expertise and empathy of the musicians, it works shockingly well.
