11 Songs, 1 Hour 19 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Critical acclaim only leaves New York’s most self-aware hipster more confused on album three. At what cost popularity? “I try and try/It ends up feeling kind of wrong,” James Murphy admits on “You Wanted a Hit.” At what cost heartbreak? “Never needed anyone for so long,” he laments on “All I Want,” a pristine “Heroes” tribute. These songs vacillate between ecstasy and agony—even the bawdy “Drunk Girls” curdles—and yearn for release. The coiled “One Touch” never quite breaks free, while “Pow Pow” feels like a glorious tantrum.

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

Not As Good As "S.O.S."

This album lacks a bit of punch compared to Sound of Silver, so I can't give it 5 stars. This album just lacks a little bit of that extra magic that made SoS so good. A few too many duds for my liking. Still an upbeat, catchy album with plenty of memorable hooks and lyrics.
