Thinking Too Much

Thinking Too Much

Joshua Slone quickly found a broad audience thanks to a co-sign from collaborator Zach Bryan, but the Kentucky-based singer-songwriter is more than just another up-and-comer trying to follow in the superstar’s footsteps. That’s evident on his full-length debut album, boasting 16 feature-less tracks written by the artist himself. Anchored by Slone’s skillful narrative songwriting and sneakily agile voice, Thinking Too Much is an especially sturdy first project from an artist with deep potential. The record opens with “Wanting More,” an introspective account of a situationship gone wrong, with a vocal that recalls Dylan LeBlanc or Role Model. “Regret It” addresses a gone but not forgotten ex-flame, with gentle banjo and acoustic guitar creating a lush backdrop. “Somehow I Got You, Somehow You Love Me” is a soulful standout, as Slone employs an old-school croon to profess his love. He closes the album with the title track, a woozy, relatable meditation on getting stuck in your own head.
