“He will see you through” on its own is worth the album price

Rhiannon Giddens has come through again and this album is so beautiful. Joining up with jazz musician Francesco Turtisi has allowed Giddens to spread her wings and soar even more beautifully. Turtisi accompanies Giddens’ banjo with piano and frame drum. “He will see you through” by itself is worth the album price. As several reviews of the album have pointed out, this stunning new song sounds like it could be a hymn that is 200 years old. It’s solid and gorgeous. Giddens sings it gently and unhurried as if unaware of any listeners, but when a huge gospel choir remakes the song, it will sound just as good. That kind of versatility defines this album and without doubt, we will be hearing remakes and homages soon.

Duo

A very well matched duo here. Remarkable in its depth, but also its simplicity.
