EDITORS’ NOTES

Creatures of an Hour is a soundtrack to a dream world. Led by songwriter/producer Greg Hughes and singer Tessa Murray, this London quartet makes atmospheric pop songs set to hypnotic rhythms, waves of synthesizers, and Ennio Morricone–style guitar. At the center of this spacious swirl of sound is Murray’s alluring voice, which matches the lush textures and nuances at work. Her breathy vocals and fragile melodies shine on the bubbling psychedelic pop of “Cuckoo” and “Into the Trees,” as well as the haunting “I Wrote in Blood” and the hazy “The Twilight Hour.” “Velveteen,” “Submarine,” and the eerie “Circulars” add memorable, midtempo grooves while complementing the album's overall mellow flow. A lovely debut.

Mix Broadcast with Lynch era Julee Cruise and you get Creatures of an Hour. It's like being trapped in a dream that you never want to end. If you like this, check out the band Cat's Eyes. They are both great and have a similar feel...
