10 Songs, 26 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Beach Slang’s first full length starts with a roar and ends 26 minutes later with the same, rarely letting up in-between. A huge, impassioned album that bridges punk energy and heartland rock ’n’ roll, The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us has as much in common with Cheap Trick and the Replacements as it does with contemporaries like Titus Andronicus and Japandroids—artists who pledge their sincerity and get dirty doing it. And as with the Replacements, it’s the band’s tender moments that hit hardest: “Too Late to Die Young” and the bittersweet “Porno Love.”

This is what it is that I am talking about!

Great follow up to the EPs. Midwestern rock and frickin roll. Listen to it on a cold night driving across eastern Ohio with the windows down and the radio up. Awesome.

Wasted Opportunity

As someone who grew up on 80s punk and alternative, I had high hopes for this album. While they come close to capturing the sound of some of the bands I really liked back in the day (I’m thinking Husker Du and a college band I loved called Titanic Love Affair), the songs are lame and repetitive and the singer is trying way too hard to be earnest. It made me want to puke. I actually ended up yelling at my stereo, and not in good way.

Great Album…

It’s like it’s The Replacements crossed with the Psychedelic Furs and a little Japandroids thrown in… I love it. Been waiting for a band to fill that great rock and roll hole that the Mats left, and this is close to being the band to fill that hole…
