EDITORS’ NOTES

When Jesse Leach uncorks his first full-bodied roar on “Unleashed,” the leadoff track on Killswitch Engage’s eighth album, you can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. The singer’s first real test since undergoing throat surgery in 2018, Atonement is a bracing tour de force for one of metalcore’s most durable and influential acts. Huge riffs buttress soaring choruses on the uplifting “Us Against the World,” the muscular rocker “I Can’t Be the Only One,” and the confessional “I Am Broken Too,” a reflective acknowledgment of Leach’s struggles with depression and a showcase for his polished croon. Supplemented by a few pinch hitters (Testament’s Chuck Billy lends his growl to “The Crownless King,” while former KsE vocalist Howard Jones trades verses with Leach on “The Signal Fire”) and the barrage of sound from guitarists Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel, Atonement somehow feels like a glorious return to form for a band that never lost its edge.

KsE forever

Always stoked for a new Killswitch album. Especially excited to hear a new track with Howard. All these people complaining about the different vocalists are fools, Jesse and Howard are both great in their own ways. Accept the growth and evolution of the band, KsE forever!

This album is weak

There isn’t one song on this record that grabs you and makes you want to listen to it over and over again. When Disarm the Descent came out, things were looking promising but the two that come after that have been mediocre at best. This song getting praised by everyone “I am Broken Too” is hot garbage, really?!? That song doesn’t even make the cut on previous albums.... Those riffs are weak.
Wish I was happier about this release but sadly it’s just a fart in the wind in terms of as far as memorable albums go.

I’m Engaged!🔥🔥🔥

I am new to this band. I have heard the name but never listened. I now have listened to every song on this album twice and can’t get enough. The vocalist is outstanding. Time to check out their older stuff immediately. Btw the album cover art is Killer!
