Though it’s not her first post-Helium album, Mary Timony’s inaugural offering with her eponymous band feels like a rejuvenation of sorts. Here, the gothic, modal flourishes that added murk to her solo fare are supplanted by an electrifying scrappiness. That energy propels the elastic-band snap of the careening guitars and snare hiccups in “Sharpshooter” and adds swagger to the staccato refrain in the woozy “Pink Clouds”; it drives the tidal-wave chords and intricate solos in “Summer Fawn.” Her off-kilter indie rock vigor is deeply intoxicating.
