The One Day LP

The One Day LP

Tate McRae’s 2021 debut project The One Day LP—once only available on vinyl and as separate, individual songs—consists of her early work from 2016 to 2019. McRae’s compilation puts the dancer turned bona fide pop star’s signature pouty sound at the forefront, anchored by the weepy semi-title track “One Day,” originally released on YouTube in 2017. A teenager at the time of these songs’ creation, she showed sensibilities that belied her age, with tender but immature relationship (both romantic and platonic) drama the core theme throughout. From the anxious “Slip” to the self-aware “Drown” and the sassy “Hard to Find,” McRae addresses the ups and downs of young love, big feelings, and faltering friendships. Of course, “Teenage Mind” taps into that psyche directly: “What have we come to now?/We all wanna be like the rest/Can’t describe just how/But we’re all a beautiful mess.”
