Editors’ Notes When David Bowie decided to launch a sneak-attack comeback in 2013, he meant a true comeback. With the year not complete, another seven tracks made it out of his studios (available with the original deluxe-edition version of the album or as a stand-alone EP). Two are remixes: one is a 10-minute version of “Love Is Lost” in a "Hello Steve Reich Mix by James Murphy for the DFA." (LCD Soundsystem's Murphy also worked with Bowie on Arcade Fire’s 2013 single “Reflektor.”) The other remix is “I’d Rather Be High” in the more modestly titled and timed "Venetian Mix." “God Bless the Girl” was found on Japanese imports, and the rest come to satisfy Bowie fanatics who were already having their best year in a decade. Bowie’s genius for writing and recording music that's both commercially accessible and still artistically challenging and innovative continues with the modern sounds of “Atomica,” where he shows Arcade Fire where they got it from. “The Informer” even stares down mortality.
