12 Songs, 44 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Though Alison Moyet came to national attention as half of the synth-pop duo Yazoo (a.k.a. Yaz), she hasn't released a formidable electronic-based studio album since the '80s. The Minutes, her first new album in six years, was brought to fruition with producer Guy Sigsworth, who made his mark on records by Madonna, Björk, and Britney Spears. Together, they have an incredible amount of fun. The adventurous rhythms and dubstep challenges of "Changeling" create an excitement that's nicely balanced by the more moderate (but still aggressive) arrangements of "When I Was Your Girl," where Moyet sounds like the victorious torch singer fans dreamed she could be. But what fans love most is what she has to say, and songs like "Remind Yourself" and "A Place to Stay" speak from Moyet's heart in ways that few singers ever accomplish. "Filigree"—here in a standard version and an expansive and rocking West Coast Mix—suggests a bit of what Yaz could've been in the year 2013.

Fantastic! Those who follow her know she doesn't get the attention she deserves! This is easily one of my favorites from her solo career, the others being Hoodoo, Hometime & Live No Overdubs! The production is flawless and dramatic! Can't believe she was giving away Changeling on her website, it should be a single!!! It's all good, buy now!

Album of the year!

I can't remember the last time I loved all the songs on any record but Alison Moyet delivers that with "the minutes". I believe it's the best album of her career. She returns to her electronica days with the outstanding production of Guy Sigworth but there's an added depth to the lyrics in the here that signal that added life experience since her Yaz days and her voice is still something to behold. As I said, the entire album is great with Horizon Flame, When I Was Your Girl, Apple Kisses, Right As Rain and the next single, Love Reign Supreme being my favorites at the moment.
