The Knife Shift
Dave Grohl has sung Kristeen Young's praises and agreed to play drums on this whole album, plus guitar on five songs. Legendary David Bowie producer Tony Visconti agreed to coproduce the album with her. She’s been called “the most awesome rock star you’ve never heard of” by Blackbook, while The New York Times describes her music as “sharp, confrontational art-rock [that] shares its aggressive soulfulness with Peaches and PJ Harvey.” It's all true, as this New York keyboardist, songwriter, and vocalist brings true passion to her seventh album, The Knife Shift. “This Is War” is the battle cry, and “I’ll Show You” is certainly driven by a sense of settling scores, but Young also offers up fantastic drama with “Jealous of Loved Children” and the hard-rocking yet tuneful “The Answer to All Your Problems Is in This Little Bottle.” It feels like an exciting trip back to the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, when glam, punk, and new wave sweated creativity and excitement.
