The Sea and Cake's Finest Hour

I can't believe I'm the first to write a review here. This is the first S+C album to incorporate some of Tortoise's experimentation and electronic sequencing. ("Black Tree in The Bee Yard" sounds like it was taken from a Tortoise album) The result is fantastic, and criminally overlooked.

My favorite to date.

Up through their latest album, Runner, The Sea and Cake have always delivered gorgeous blissed-out tunes. But I always find myself coming back to The Fawn as my standout favorite album of theirs. Vocals, guitar, bass, drums and electronics all strut their stuff here while also merging into one another for a wonderfully eclectic, syncopated whole. Kick back, and let these songs warm you over.

special sonic moment from the nineties

a deep cut nugget.

Some people compare Sea & Cake to Stereolab; this album is crafted with a little more soul & doesn't fall into retro cliches.
Mellow, beautiful harmonies, laid back rhythms, overall melancholic & introspective.

& for even deeper aural diving... listen to Carl Craig's mix of Sea &Cake's 'Hotel Tell'... the fact he's working with them says it all.
