The End

The End

Following the breakout success of Mystic Stylez, Three 6 Mafia continued on their path of underground domination with The End. The album finds DJ Paul and Juicy J developing the dystopian sounds that had become their signature, while also adding some new ingredients to the recipe. “Late Night Tip” would become one of the group’s best-known songs, utilizing a melodramatic piano theme that could be a soap opera soundtrack slowed to a death knell. As the sound design has expanded, so has the group’s lineup. The End features Gangsta Boo, Koopsta Knicca, Crunchy Black, K-Rock, and Indo G playing supporting roles to the core gang of Juicy J, DJ Paul, Project Pat, and Lord Infamous. The group’s patented chanting style is displayed in full force, with Lord Infamous leading the charge on “I Ain’t Goin’” and “Money Flow.” Even as the group explores the abstract horror soundscapes of “Where Da Killaz Hang” and “Last Man Standing,” the gaseous funk of “Good Stuff” and “In-2-Deep” serve as a reminder that these iconoclasts hail from soul-rich Memphis.
