Edgy Beauty Personified

I first experienced Ms. Slean's live persona in what seems like a decade ago, when she opened for the Indigo Girls in Toronto. Classically trained (listen to those arrangements!), lyrics filled with vinegar and honey, hooky melodies with just the right beat, uniquely herself, Ms. Slean is a hidden treasure only because she's Canadian. This album improves on her trope. It is both accessible and durable.
Land & Sea is for newcomers (who should discover the back catalogue later- great stuff there, and do not skip over the live recordings) and for Sleaners. Get it, enjoy it, play it! "Genius" has been said, so I'll add: consumate craftsperson, ever-widening artistry-- forget your mod chanteuses, this is the Real Thing.

Land & Sea

Sarah Slean is a wonder. Album after album she delivers fantastic vocals and astounding instrumentations. This album is a must have for Slean fans and newbies alike. Two discs worth of material and there isn't a single track worth skipping at all. That is GENIUS.
