EDITORS’ NOTES

Jackie Hill Perry's sanctified lyrics and confident flow make The Art of Joy one of the most compelling Christian rap debuts in recent memory. Perry brings a backstory of personal struggle to the project—most importantly, she displays a poet’s gift for wordplay matched with exalted vision and a fearless heart. Confrontational tunes like “Educated Fool” and “Dead Preacher” are interspersed with hope-infused pieces like “I Just Wanna Get There” and the title track. Sparse but potent beats and tasteful keyboards frame Perry’s testimony to full advantage.

Jackie Hill Perry DELIVERS! Masterful… sonically, lyrically, creatively. Humble Beast has found a jewel. This album is classic hip hop meets contemporary soul; it's Poetry In Motion. It's an infusion of influences from Common and Slick Rick to the Floacist and Lupe, Lauryn and MC Lyte to Mali Music and Bizzle. You can't possibly receive everything she offers in one listen. These are the types of songs that need to be played over ad over to receive the full weight and width of the message. The Art Of Joy is a MUST HAVE for any music connoisseur. It's truth, it's life, it's love on wax. #HeavyRotation

Be careful

Don't listen to this album unless you want a few things.
1:To hear something that will change you
2:To have your expectations destroyed.

This album have enough in it to change the life of you, your sister, your mom and your dad. Prepared to hear things people have never told you.
I warned you.
