Shockingly Avantgarde

This isn't the album anyone expected from Liturgy. Maybe not even the album anybody wanted from Liturgy.
But the fact it subverts all expectations in the pursuit of art is truly incredible.
Liturgy, and HHH, remain some of the greatest artistic visionaries of our time.

Cool stuff. I dig the cleans. Very different record from others in the genre.

Not even good enough to be Hipster.

So, I kinda dug their last album, at least a little bit and could see what they were trying to do. Wasn't good by any means but I was piqued enough to want to see if they could mature and come out with something that encapsulated their vision in a more cohesive manner. Sadly, this is just an all out mess. I love experimental, I love black metal, I could listen to Merzbow for hours but this just comes off as trying way too hard.

Music should be music, in that it follows some semblance of that thought when being made or listened to. Music is also a form of art to a degree but not an art in itself. Describing music as art is basically giving it a free pass for sounding like crap.

Liturgy are not moving music forward, the pioneers have been making what's recorded here for years only way better and this should be avoided at all costs.
