EDITORS’ NOTES

It’s the quiver in Dean Martin’s voice that makes him utterly charming. Whether describing a recipe for romance (“Memories Are Made of This”) or the moon looking like a big pizza pie (“That’s Amore”), the wobble in his throat sounds like laughter. In more romantic moments (“Innamorata [Sweetheart]”), that tremor takes on a sobbing quality, as if the crooner is overwhelmed with passion. But nothing serious sticks to Dino for long, and he’s soon back to grinning his way through “Mambo Italiano,” glass in hand.

Trick or Treat! ,

Dean Martin

A class act. Recorded over 100 albums and 600 songs. I was a musician in the house orchestra at Sahara Lake Tahoe in 1975. Got to play Dean Martin's show. It was New Year's eve and it snowed so much they had to send a snowplow down to the resort's house on the lake to pick Martin up for the show. His act was being drunk and drinking onstage. He was drinking apple juice. Class act!
