EDITORS’ NOTES

Brian Sella doesn’t mince words. On "Santa Monica," the frontman for the strummy, punky New Jersey folk-pop group The Front Bottoms declares himself an “emotional baby boy" as furious upstroke chords, chanted backing vocals, and soaring horns keep his pity party lively. Across the group's fourth album, Talon of the Hawk, Sella explores his angst with humor and chiming hooks, whether lamenting his bad habits atop the New Wave synths of "Skeleton" or sticking up for himself while getting dumped on "Au Revoir (Adios)."

Best Band. Best Album. Best Everything.

The Front Bottoms are such a gem, they're one of those bands that you find by accident or your best friend told you about them and then you reluctantly listen to because your friend won't stop bugging you about it and you love them. Their first album was magical. The Front Bottoms captured lightning in a bottle with this album. It is pure genius. The lyrics are so meaningful and you can tell how personal every lyric is. I adore "Lone Star" for that reason. This band is perfect and if they come to a town near you, drop what you're doing and go see them. They are perfection.

Best Album of 2013 Already?

There is something very special about The Front Bottoms. Lyrically they are fantastic. Musically they are original. But I think it's the fact that they, as a band, fill me with such snarky joy that I explode with sarcasm all over the current "scene" is what I love the most about them. "Twin Size Mattress" will be my jam for a very long time because I can't sing a harmony nor can I play the tamborine but I have never wanted to join a band more because of these gentlemen. BUY. THIS. ALBUM.

Great music, even better guys

I flew from CA with a couple friends to see Brian and Matt play at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. We loved their music from the beginning but we really hoped that we would get to meet them...Brian and Matt couldn't believe a few random kids from CA came across the country to watch them play..such humble guys. They even sat and talked with us the minute they had to go on stage, they even gave us 3 shout outs during their performance! I love The Front Bottoms!
