Editors’ Notes In best beat-group style, Franz Ferdinand opens its self-titled debut album by claiming only to work when they need the money. It's all false modesty, of course. Underneath the clean-cut, be-suited surface is a rock 'n' roll band putting a great deal of talent and effort into not breaking a sweat. Anchored by three instant classics ("Take Me Out," "Michael," and that starter, "Jacqueline"), Franz Ferdinand has plenty of good stuff lurking for anyone who sticks around. Its study of dance-rock rhythms and smart pop hooks pays off in small gems like "Darts of Pleasure," while "Come On Home" sheds light on the bittersweet feel at the sound's root.
