13 Songs, 38 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Skating from style to style with grace and ease, Paolo Nutini serves up an impressive sophomore release. More sophisticated than its predecessor, Sunny Side Up is also unexpectedly eclectic. From the ska-influenced opener “10/10” to the R&B gem “Coming Up Easy” to the achingly beautiful “Candy,” Nutini’s gritty, soulful Scottish brogue is warm and engaging. Folk, swing jazz, doo-wop, ballads, and skiffle are also referenced. It all works, as he's backed here by his ace six-piece band, The Vipers. Nutini’s talent and promise as a singer was evident from the start of his career. With Sunny Side Up, he proves to be a capable songwriter and bandleader as well.

Paolo Nutini is a genius

I didn't know what to make of this album the first time I listened to it. It appeared Paolo had gone country on the first track. Boy was I wrong. The more I listen to this album the more I feel a 60s folk and 50s rock album with a little country thrown in. I bought Paolo's first album and loved it. But this is a masterstroke of musical genius. I can't say that about every album I listen to but he has definitely stepped the music industry up several notches from his first album. If you only buy a few CDs a year then get this one. Give it a chance; It may take a little listening of more than once to catch on, but you will not regret this purchase.

Paolo has done it again!

Like a lot of people when i first heard this album i didn't really like it because it was so different from the first. But TRUST ME once you put in your car and play it a couple of times you'll fall in love. Its so different and unique you have to adjust yourself to it, but it's totally worth it. Paolo really is a musical genuis.
