Vibrant Naples takes center stage on this thrilling album from La Festa Musicale. Joined by artistic director/recorder player Barbara Heindlmeier and soprano Maria Ladurner, the ensemble alternates early 18th-century concertos and operatic arias that reflect Naples’ rich musical life. Alessandro Scarlatti is the only well-known name here, but composers like Francesco Mancini, Domenico Sarro, and Giuseppe Porsile need fear nothing in comparison. Parthenope, Naples’ founder in legend, features large in the operatic arias, which are beautifully sung, while the concertos sparkle like the sun on the Gulf of Naples.
