14 Songs, 41 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Christmas doesn’t get more soulful than this collection of tunes dominated by R&B titans from the Stax/Atlantic roster of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Some ease into their celebrations of the season, like Otis Redding in his gently pleading “White Christmas,” and some tear the place down, like Clarence Carter with his roaring, stomping “Back Door Santa.” But it’s hard to imagine old Saint Nick ever getting a theme song as slinky, supple, and soul-slathered as “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” by Booker T. & The M.G.’s.

Amazing Holiday album!

Since I was a child in the 1980s living in South America my parents would play this on the cassette tape every Christmas. Although we bought a CD player after, they still kept the tape to play this album among others! Always thought these were the only Christmas songs in the world. Love "Gee whiz, it's Christmas" and "What are you doing this New Year's Eve?"

Best Soul R&B Classic..back down memory lane album!

This will take you back to those nostalgic days of the seventies...when R&B had depth and plenty of soul. This played all the time in our house when I grew up. It was great then and spectacular now!

Great!!! Great!!! Great!!!

Wow, so glad this finally made iTunes. I've been looking for it. Grew up listening to this every Christmas with my family. Not until I was in my twenties did it occur to me that "Backdoor Santa" had a whole different meaning. LOL!!! Personal favorite is "Gee Whiz, It's Christmas." Carla Thomas has a beautiful voice. Love it.
