Wonderful to see the return of Ali Thomson on record...

Ali Thomson is best known in the U.S. for his 1980 A&M Records release "Take a Little Rhythm," which featured the title track that broke into the upper echelons of the American Top 40 and spawned other tunes that garnerned FM radio airplay. For the past three-plus decades Thomson has primarily written and produced for other artists in the U.K. and mainland Europe. I was delighted to see a new recording emerge on iTunes, the 9-song collection "Songs from the Playroom." It has the same ear-catching melodies found on "Take Little Rhythm" but is lyrically even more sophisticated and pleasant. I'm especially drawn to the environmentally-conscious opening cut "Aqua Blue" and "Song for a Broken Heart," which I've been unable to get out of my mind since first hearing it last week! Highly recommended to those who knew Thomson's A&M work or who appreciated his songwriting for Gary Wright ("Really Want to Know You").
