Outstanding Musicianship, But Important Element Missing

Another truly astounding performance. Michael's musicianship and innovation is unparalleled in this recording. But the CD version of this features a 24-page booklet of album notes that describes the many alternate tunungs and techniques used in the performance of the songs. This booklet does not appear to be available in iTunes. I felt a little cheated and as a result the album just missed a 5th star.

An Absolute Masterpiece

Fanstastic. One of the best albums I have ever heard...Michael Manring is arguably the best bassist on the face of the planet, and shows it through fourteen intellectual, moving and heartfelt pieces, from the beautious gliss of "I left America" to the upbeat funk of "Excuse me, Mr. Manring." buy this album....you won't regret it.

Innovative virtuosity at its best. A lot more than bass guitar playing, and a lot more than jazz. Labels are difficult at this level of music. Mr. Manring also seems versatile enough to enhance a range of musical styles, as evidenced by his contributions on Sohre’s latest album, The Night Between. Overall, Soliloquy is excellent, and likely to please the intelligent, critical listener with a high need for novelty.
