Great Music, Great Movie

I was in the 6th and 7th grade living in San Mateo when the Zodiac Killer was on his horrific rampage. I remember my Mother taking us to school by car and watching the Police escorts at the school when the buses unloaded. Very scarey times for us.... but I also remember the music and how I just started to listen to the radio. KFRC, K101, KDIA. Sitting in the theater the songs grabbed me and took me back to that time. I guess that is what music does, stamps time and marks it for us. Great, great music...

Can't we just buy 1 song?

Why does ITunes make you buy an entire album instead of downloading 1 song. This is why people illegaly download.

Stop me if you've heard this one before...

I'd like to think that the rest of the iTunes community is a smart and intelligent group and would be able to understand why artist albums and movie soundtracks are available for different kinds of purchases. Take the new Pete Yorn album - you can buy any song you want except for the exclusive track, which is only available by downloading the whole album. It's a novel concept, right? Now, take a soundtrack like this and compare it to many of the other movie soundtracks available on iTunes. First glance, and most of the people on here rush to their keyboards to write well-thought responses like, "TOM SMASH ITUNES ITS STUPID I WANT TO BUY INDIVIDUAL SONGS AND ITUNES IS STUPID BECAUSE IT WON'T LET ME SMASH!!!" Now, that kind of response is uncalled for since iTunes only makes the music available for purchase. They really don't have any say-so as far as how they distribute the songs on movie soundtracks. Those decisions are left to the record companies and the studios who make and produce the actual soundtracks.

In a nutshell, don't blame iTunes for making soundtracks like Zodiac "Album Only." Blame the record companies because it's up to them how the music is distributed, and they've decided that they want you, Johnny Consumer, to only be able to purchase this album in its entirety rather than splitting it up.

Anyway, the movie was great and the album did a wonderful job of setting the mood along with the stellar cinematography. Everything related to this movie and its music should be purchased because it doesn't get any better than this.
