Editors’ Notes Montgomery Gentry’s seventh studio album may have had tumultuous roots, but the duo sounds more solid than ever on Rebels on the Run. “Damn Right I Am” kickstarts the album with a flag-waving, fist-pumping, soldier-thanking anthem that also champions the Constitution’s Second Amendment. The duo unleashes timeless twang-rock on the following “Ain’t No Law Against That,” where banjos, standup piano, pedal steel, and distorted Telecasters kick out a rowdy tune with a strong carpe diem sentiment. Of course it wouldn’t be a Montgomery Gentry album without some heavy love for small-town living, and “Where I Come From” gives ’80s-era John Mellencamp a run for his money with a heartland hymn that champions the Mayberry life with honed hooks of golden melody.
