EDITORS’ NOTES

The restlessly adventurous Australian psych outfit King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard aren’t ones to back down from a challenge, and on Sketches of Brunswick East—their third album of 2017—the collective trade in their typically frenzied garage rock for a vigorous take on jazz with their fellow freaks in Mild High Club. "Countdown" is a deliciously smooth combination of lush guitars and bubbling bass that would surely make Michael McDonald proud, while the three-part titular suite sounds like some rediscovered '70s fusion epic.
