“I dare you to,” Pittsburgh-born Daya coos on her debut album’s opener, a fitting challenge for a collection defined by the testing of boundaries. On the giddy title track, she loudly casts off feminine norms; the stuttery “Legendary” embraces living in the now; and the skip-step “Hide Away” couches its hopes for Mr. Right in a laundry list of boyfriend no-nos. The tinkling ballad “Back to Me” allows Daya to display the raw emotion that turned her cameo on The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down” into a star-making moment.
