Singles Too

Singles Too

Given that Screaming Females are one of the 21st century’s most prolific DIY rock bands, it’s hard to believe that the New Jersey group has anything left unheard that’s collecting dust. But Singles Too manages to expand on a previous offcuts collection (2010’s Singles), tracing the streamlining of their sound from fuzzed-out apocalypse (“Arm Over Arm”) to more ambitious sleekness (“Take It Back”). But its strongest offering is a wickedly executed covers selection, from Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” to Annie Lennox’s “No More ‘I Love You’s,’” which reveals the joie de vivre that’s sustained them since 2006. Long may it last.
