Silver Side Up is a tumultuous wave of post-grunge grooves, hot-blooded vocals, and a whole heap of emotional outpouring. The stormy "How You Remind Me" quickly emerges as the album's calling card, with Chad Kroeger recounting a dysfunctional love affair, while the heady "Too Bad" relays the frontman's feelings about growing up with an absent father. The angst levels are ramped up even further with "Hangnail," which broods along thanks to Mike Kroeger's cavernous bass playing.
