1 Song, 3 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

One week after the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, Sawyer Garrity, Andrea Peña, and their fellow students in Stoneman Douglas Drama wrote, arranged, and performed this piano ballad at a CNN town hall. Their recording of “Shine” is a powerful tribute to the victims, demanding action from leaders and highlighting the students’ strength and resilience while raising funds for Shine MSD—a nonprofit founded to encourage survivors of violence to express themselves through art.

#NeverAgain

As a former high school theatre student, music lover, and empathetic human being, I stand with Stoneman Douglas, and I’m so grateful y’all released this song. I wanted to buy immediately upon hearing it at the CNN Town Hall. I’m so sorry for what you endured Feb. 14, but I’m just unbelievably proud and humbled by the work y’all are doing to make sure this never happens again. Wishing you all peace, strength, fortitude, joy and love. Finally, this song is INCREDIBLE. Even if it wasn’t for a vitally important cause, it’d be worth every penny.

Stunning

First heard this live at the CNN town hall sitting just next to where they sang it for the first time. Brought chills to the thousands of people there that night.
