EDITORS’ NOTES

Retracing a familiar path through a landscape that changes with the seasons provided Ludovico Einaudi with the inspiration for the linked albums in his Seven Days Walking project. The path may stay the same, but the emotional landscape of the music develops with each walk, and here on Day 5 the imagination runs riot, inhabiting the cold terrain with vivid life, both external and internal. Einaudi’s characteristically wistful piano is joined, discreetly, by a violin and cello to magical effect. This is haunting and powerful music.
